Policy Issues

NBB worked with USDA to ensure that biodiesel projects are eligible to participate in the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program, which provides matching grants on projects that will increase consumer access to biodiesel blends, such as B20.

NBB supports the Renewable Fuel Infrastructure Investment and Market Expansion Act of 2021 (S 227/HR 1542), bipartisan, bicameral legislation that will continue this successful program, which has already increased consumer access to biodiesel by 140 million gallons per year. Please use this form to write your Representative and Senators and encourage their support.

NBB asks Congress to provide funding through annual appropriations for Farm Bill programs that help biodiesel and renewable diesel increase production and open new markets. Congress reauthorized the Biodiesel Fuel Education Program and the Bioenergy Program for Advanced Biofuels in the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018; however, Congress did not provide mandatory funds for the education program.

As our members communicate with Members of Congress, USDA and other Washington policy makers, the media, and the public, NBB works with them to amplify these points:

  • Advanced biofuels like biodiesel and renewable diesel drive investment, job creation, and innovation in feedstock development. Every 100 million gallons of increased biodiesel production supports roughly 3,200 jobs.
  • With plants and markets across the country, the U.S. biodiesel and renewable diesel industry supports more than 60,000 U.S. jobs, paying $2.5 billion in annual wages. The industry generates more than $17 billion in economic activity each year.
  • Increased biodiesel and renewable diesel production levels support U.S. energy independence.
